Multi-faceted company
We are so glad our apple trees are yielding so much fruit and this year it’s indeed something to write home about, indeed an apple overload. But since we cannot eat all of it and since the birds and insects are enjoying themselves way too much, we thought it might be a good idea to share it with the community. For those, like me (Michaël), who like to follow Science. Today I read an article on upi.com about the gene responsible for the “virgin birth” of bees in the Cape Honey Bee (Apis mellifera capensis). I found this article quite interesting since one of my majors at the University of Pretoria was in Genetics. Genes are incredible parts of science that have so many unanswered questions. Thus I would like to share one recent discovery with the world, one less unanswered question to worry about, but of coarse this bring up more questions. I personally would like to know if this gene also influences their aggressiveness that they are known for. Let us know what you think in the comments…
